Furry Animals Oh My! is a MCBA registered breeder of chinchillas, located in New Jersey. Since 2002, they have been breeding high-quality, award-winning chinchillas, and have established themselves as one of the United States’ recognizable and appreciated breeders.

In May of 2007, the owners of Furry Animals Oh My! approached me to ask for help in completely reconstructing their site. For months, they had been maintaining it on their own with limited HTML knowledge, and they had decided they were tired of the various problems they were faced with when trying to update. They wanted to be able to update their site and put up new chinchillas for adoption without having to resize photos, add new table cells, etc. every time a new baby was born (which is pretty often with a herd of 70+ chinchillas!).

I worked with FAOM to determine the exact image they wanted for their site: a more professional design with photos of their beautiful animals, but a fun, friendly atmosphere at the same time. Out of those ideas, we worked together to make the perfect fit for them!

Since its launch, Furryanimalsohmy.com has received many compliments on their new design and has seen an increase in sales of their chinchilla-related wares sold through their site.

(Fun fact: the light grey chinchilla in the upper left corner is my chinchilla, Frankie!)

While working for Sarah Lawrence’s Academic Computing Department, I was given the assignment to completely reconstruct the website for the Sarah Lawrence Archives.

The archivist had a general idea in mind; she wanted the site to reflect more closely the environment and air of Sarah Lawrence, look more professional than its predecessor and be accessible for visitors with visual or hearing impairments.

Working closely with the archivist, I created the new Archives website, including templates for new pages for her and an easy-to-use template system for various exhibits she wished to eventually put on the Internet.

Throughout the project, the archivist frequently shared the site with many of her colleagues, both for their comments and just to “show it off.” She was very excited to watch the project evolve and enjoyed showing it to everyone after its launch date.

While working for Sarah Lawrence’s Academic Computing Department, I was asked to design a layout for a professor’s travel blog, using some of his photos and a “journal” or “notebook” style effect.

My boss and the professor were very pleased with the result.

Rebuilding in the wake of any natural disaster can be a long and difficult process for everyone involved, but when the disaster is as devastating as Hurricane Katrina’s impact on New Orleans, even a year later the process can still be slow-going.

In November of 2006, Sarah Lawrence College hosted a conference called Rebuilding a Democratic New Orleans, during which activists, architects, experts and other concerned people convened on the SLC campus to “discuss and develop meaningful proposals addressing innovative affordable housing and neighborhood design from policy, design, planning, construction and activist perspectives.”

Later, the faculty sponsors of the conference asked Sarah Lawrence’s Academic Computing Department to create a site recapping the events of the conference. I was asked to design the site and implement several web functions and applications to serve the sponsors’ needs.

Lauren Jean is a face and body painter, as well as budding graphic artist and conventional painter, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2006, she decided that she wanted to expand her scope of business by creating a portfolio site on the web.

Lauren Jean wanted her site to showcase her work, be easy to update and be visually appealing to potential clients and her own personal tastes. Together we worked through several possible designs and eventually came up with one that fit her personality and her work perfectly.

Recently Lauren Jean was featured in the Indianapolis Star, and her site has since received hundreds of visitors eager to find out more about her work!

When one of the Italian professors at Sarah Lawrence decided it would be a good idea to make a website for the Italian department, she came immediately to me, as she knew I had quite a bit of experience with web design, including with language department websites.

This professor wanted the Italian website to feature a great deal of aspects of Italian culture without being too overwhelming or “stuffy.” I designed the layout around some various pieces of art she had sent me and used a collage effect to include as many as possible. I also added a few snippets of the Italian language to every page, for an added effect.

The day after it was launched, while in Italian class with the professor, she immediately pulled it up on the presentation computer and proudly proclaimed it as my work in front of the entire class.
